Hot Tub Energy Saving Tips

Hot Tub Energy Saving Tips
December 08/2015

Following these simple hot tub / spa energy saving tips will help you save money!

For maximum hot tub energy saving set the hot tub / spa heater thermostat to maintain 38.8° C (102º F) and keep it there.  Assuming you have a well-insulated hot tub, it is actually cheaper to keep the water at a constant temperature than to raise or lower the temperature of the hot tub or spa.

Switch the hot tub / spa controls to operate the pumps in “Economy” or “Vacation” mode while you are away.  This will allow the system to only maintain a bare minimum in terms of circulation and heat based on the lack of use in your absence.

Create a windbreak around the hot tub / spa to cut wind expose when the cover is open and to reduce the chance of the cover blowing off.

Ensure that your cover inserts for your hot tub or spa are dry and in peak condition.  Most of the heat loss in your hot tub / spa can be through your cover if it is not well maintained.  Ensure that it still closes properly and that the foam inserts are not broken.  If there are ways for steam to seep out, then it is time to repair the cover or consider buying a new one.
